Twins at Home: What a Twin Newborn Family Session Really Looks Like
double the cuddles, none of the pressure
The message usually arrives in capital letters: "We're having TWINS!" — followed a few weeks later by a much quieter one: "So… how does a photoshoot even work when there are two?"
Here's the honest answer: more easily than you'd think. A twin session follows the same relaxed rules as every session I do; your home, your rhythm, no posing, no clock. There are simply two of everything, and once you stop trying to make two newborns follow a plan (they won't, they didn't share a womb for nine months out of politeness), it becomes one of the loveliest sessions there is. Here's what it actually looks like.
01 · The Venue
Why Home Wins — Twice Over

With one baby, a studio is an option. With twins, home wins by a mile. Think about what leaving the house actually takes with two newborns: two car seats, two spare outfits, the changing bag that weighs more than the passengers. By the time you've loaded the car you've done a day's work and the session hasn't even started.
At home, everything you need is already here: your bed for the big family cuddles, the cot for the side-by-side frames, the sofa where you spend your night feeds. Milk is warm, spare vests are one drawer away, and if somebody falls asleep mid-feed, nobody has to drive anywhere. That's the whole trick of a relaxed family session at home in Oxfordshire nothing about it asks you to perform.
02 · The Session
How Two Babies Set the Pace
Every twin session starts the same way: we feed. Whatever your routine — tandem, one at a time, breast or bottle we begin right after a feed, because a fed baby is a photographable baby. With twins you get two chances at that maths, so we build the whole session around it.
Then we follow the babies, not a shot list. If one sleeps and one doesn't, we photograph the

awake one having a cuddle on your chest and honestly, some of my favourite twin photographs are exactly that: one baby wide-eyed at mum and dad while their sibling snoozes through their debut.
When both are happy at once, we take the together moments: side by side in the cot, a hand each resting on yours, the two of them curled into each other like they're still in the tiny room they shared for nine months.
Twins rarely nap in sync and that's not a problem to solve, it's just the truth of your days right now. An at-home newborn session in Oxfordshire is built around it: two unhurried hours where feeds, cuddles and breaks are part of the plan, never interruptions. You'll want to remember this exact chaos one day.
03 · The Details
How You'll Tell Them Apart

Every twins parent gets asked the same question forever: "How do you tell them apart?" You just do, you always could. And the photographs are where everyone else finally learns: the one with the longer lashes, the little crease on one ear, the completely different cry.
So I always shoot the details section properly with twins: two sets of fingers side by side, feet less than a foot apart, one small hand permanently holding the other. They spent months curled around each other before you ever met them, the photographs are how you keep a little of that. In ten years' time, these are the frames that stop you in your tracks.
04 · Twin Tips
Five Things Worth Knowing Before Your Session
Book during pregnancy. Twins like to arrive early, so the date matters even less than usual, I hold a provisional slot around your due date and we bend it around the real arrival. Prep reading: my 5 tips for a calm at-home newborn photoshoot.
The sweet spot is around 3–6 weeks. With twins often arriving a little early, it's worth letting them get home, get settled and get feeding well first. Sleepy and squishy is still guaranteed, just with slightly bigger chins than a two-week-old.
Feed on arrival. We start right after a feed, even if that means I make myself a cuppa and wait. A calm start buys you the whole session.
Forget matching (mostly). Simple neutrals photograph beautifully, and skin-on-skin beats any outfit. If you've already bought the matching sleepsuits, one photo in them, done, and then the plain vests.

Bring the big sibling. If there's an older brother or sister, the moment they meet the twins nose-to-nose with the cot is family gold. It's usually the frame the grandparents ask for.

One Story, Two Leads
Your gallery arrives hand-edited and online, as one story: the two of them, and the two of you, in the week when your family doubled. If you want the longer road, my guide to your baby's first year in photos applies twice over with twins, two first smiles, two first sittings, and one first birthday cake with four hands in it. And if you're still pregnant and thinking ahead, bump-then-babies makes a beautiful arc that's the story in From Bump to Baby.
What a session includes is a relaxed one-to-two-hour visit, a planning questionnaire, styling help, and the hand-edited gallery is all here. See a real newborn gallery for the vibe: Baby Marcus, Oxford.

Twin Session FAQs
When should we book a twin newborn session?
During pregnancy, ideally from the second trimester. Twins often arrive early, so I hold a provisional window around your due date and we move it when the babies choose their own date. Prep: 5 tips for a calm at-home newborn photoshoot.
What if one twin sleeps and the other won't settle?
Then we photograph the awake one, wait for feeds, and let the day be a day. They don't need to be in sync, some of the best frames come from the mismatch. There's no clock to beat.
Do you do posed twin setups like buckets, headbands, matching props?
No, my sessions are relaxed and natural, at home, with your actual life photographed well. If you love the matching sleepsuits, we'll use them; but nothing in my galleries needs a prop bucket. I am happy to come with some neutral wraps if requested.
Can our older child join in?
Absolutely! It's a family session, and the moment a big brother or sister meets the twins is usually the highlight. For what that stage looks like outdoors: toddler and newborn, outdoors.
How long does a twin session take?
Plan for one to two unhurried hours. Feeds, changes and cuddles are part of the plan. Twins sessions aren't longer because it's harder, they're longer because you'll all enjoy it.
Do you come to us?
Yes, anywhere in Oxfordshire or the Cotswolds edge. You never have to pack two newborns into a car for a studio slot.

We had a great photoshoot with Rahela. We were made to feel absolutely comfortable, with Rahela's genuine enthusiasm with the babies. She invested time in making us as a family relaxed and comfortable. Highly recommended!
